A description of the project and potential environmental impacts will be presented, and all persons will be afforded a reasonable opportunity to identify both orally and in writing any support, issues, or concerns they believe should be addressed during the EIA process for this proposed project. The EIA will be prepared in accordance with the Wisconsin Environmental Policy Act (WEPA), Wisconsin Statutes 1.11. The State of Wisconsin Department of Administration, Division of Facilities Development (DFD) has retained Cornerstone Environmental Group, a Tetra Tech company, on behalf of UW-Madison to prepare an EIA for the proposed Lakeshore Path Limnology Bypass.

The project is to improve the Howard Temin Lakeshore Path route around the Hasler Laboratory of Limnology by creating a dedicated bicycle path around the south side of the building. The area on the south side of the Hasler Laboratory of Limnology will be widened by construction of a retaining wall to support the adjacent hillside. The parking lot adjacent to the Hasler Laboratory of Limnology (Lot 8) will be reworked as part of this project. The target budget of the project is $1,765,200. The target construction period is anticipated to commence in September 2024 and reach substantial completion in May 2025.

The purpose of the Draft EIA is to identify the potential impacts of the project on the physical, biological, social, and economic environments. The Draft EIA describing these potential impacts is being made available to the public and to appropriate federal, state, and local agencies for a 15-day minimum review period, which begins May 2, 2024, and concludes May 16, 2024. Copies of the document will be available for review at the Madison Central Library and UW-Madison Steenbock Library, or available for download below. If you are interested in this project or have any information relevant to it, we welcome your comments, suggestions, or other input. For consideration in the Final EIA, please submit your comments at the meeting or in writing by May 16, 2024. Comment forms are available via the project website. Comments in writing can be sent to:
